FIFA Ranking: January 2009 final preview

Point totals for teams from the top 20 of the October 2007 ranking should be 100% correct. For the others, there's the issue of historical rankings published before July 2006.

Included: matches played up to and including January 8th. This is the official deadline for matches, but FIFA may include more matches but not later than Sunday, January 11th.

No changes in the top 10.
Two countries moving up in the top 20: Egypt (up 1 place to 15th) and Nigeria (up 2 places to 19th).

Best movers: Somalia (22), Vietnam (17) and Gambia (13).

Worst movers: Kenya moving down 18 places, St. Vincent and the Grenadines (14) and Rwanda (13).

6 - Costa Rica
2 - Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Nigeria and Poland

-5 - Saudi Arabia and Serbia

Three countries will improve their best ever ranking:

Egypt (15th - 16th in December 2008)
Gambia (75th - 83rd in April 2008)
Chad (118th - 119th in June 1997)

Uganda will return to their best ever ranking - 66th - first achieved in April 1995.

Three countries will have their worst ever ranking:

Tahiti (190th - 188th in December 2008)
Dominica (192nd - 191st in April 2008)
Andorra (195th - 194th in November 2008)

Three countries will return to their worst ever ranking:

United Arab Emirates (113th - November 2008)
Macau (197th - August 2008)
Central African Republic( 200th - November 2008)
