EURO 2012: Qualifying draw coefficients (1 April 2009)

The coefficients for the EURO 2012 qualifying draw will take into account results from:

2006 World Cup (qualifiers and final tournament) - 20% of total weighting
EURO 2008 (qualifiers and final tournament) - 40% of total weighting
2010 World Cup (qualifiers) - 40% of total weighting

Click here for more info on the coefficient system.

As mentioned before, I assume UEFA will use a qualifying system with six groups of six teams and three of five teams (Poland (26340) and Ukraine (23006) - automatically qualified as hosts).

The Czech Republic drop to the second pot, with France replacing them among the top seeds.

Hungary replace Lithuania in pot three.

Montenegro replace Azerbaijan in pot five.

  1. yeah, Hungary in pot 3. but I'm afraid of the new point system, we'll play very hard matches against Portugal, Denmark and Sweden. pot 3 is the best result for us.

  2. Hi, very good work on the blog, keep it up! Just a quick question, are these coeffcients up to date up until the last round of WC2010 qualifiers? Because the ones here: http://www.world-results.net/uefa/ranking.html are different and they claim to be up to date as well. Thanks.

  3. Hi Nick!

Sorry for my late reply - I've been on vacation for the last two weeks.

Yes, the coefficients are up to date. You can also find a link to my blog on World-Results.net (scroll to the end).

Raoul da Silva Curiel (from World-Results.net) uses the official formula as if the qualifiers have finished on April 1st.

    Let's take Spain for instance.

    WC2006: 541534/16
    EC2008: 753035/18
    WC2010: 245513/6

    Total: (WC2006 + 2 * EC2008 + 2 * WC2010) / 5 = 39870.81 (rounded to 39871).

I compute the WC2010 part slightly different (as proposed by amirbachar), but in the end we'll have the same values.

Spain has 4 matches left, so I've already added the 40.000 points and divided the total by 10 - the final number of matches. That's why we have different values.

Another interesting approach (see details) is the one on europeancups.altervista.org.
