according to the fifa website the next ranking update is in Feb
ReplyDeleteYes, but it will be the first ranking of 2010, hence the use of "January".
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be better to stop probable results at January 23rd because several combinations are possible for the ACN after first round. Every qualifier can face a national team with different FIFA ranking which makes it unclear after first round. The same applies for the FIFA ranking preview, the minimum for an african team occurs with three defeats in the first round. But the maximum means winning all the game and the ACN cup also. But the maximum possible number of points for a national teams depends after first round on the teams to face in second round. For Cameroon, the maximum is achieved by winning all three games of the first round (Gabon, Tunisia and Zambia). Then Cameroun should face Nigeria (22nd in December's FIFA ranking, which is better than Egypt 24th, Mozambique and Togo from Group3.
ReplyDeleteIn the semi-final and final, Cameroon should face Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire (Algeria can be in semi-final and Cote d'Ivoire in the final or vice versa) because those teams are the strongest in the first group. Doing so for every team we will get the maximum number of points that a national team can reach after winning the ACN for February FIFA ranking.
I know Brahim, that's exactly how it's done for the maximum points.
ReplyDeleteThe knock-out fixtures are based on probable results in the group stage, that's why I have Angola - Cote d'Ivoire for instance.
haha, love how all the African teams randomly shoot up. Should move the CAN to September and watch FIFA seed an African team based on their "rankings"...
