2014 FIFA World Cup seeding for AFC (9 June 2010)

The preliminary draw will take place in July or August 2011, not in November 2011 as I assumed, but that doesn't change much, because I was already using the July 2011 ranking.

AFC used previous World Cup performance to seed the teams for the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

More details on the seeding in this post:

2014 FIFA World Cup seeding for AFC

Assumptions:

- AFC will again have 4.5 spots
- AFC will keep the current qualifying system
- AFC will use the FIFA ranking to seed the teams
- AFC will choose the July 2011 ranking for seeding

The July 2011 FIFA ranking will include matches played between July 2007 and July 2011. We already have almost 50% of the final ranking: the "0.2" and "0.3" parts (matches played between July 2007 and July 2009) and almost all the "0.5" part (matches played between July 2009 and July 2010). A lot can and will change before July 2011 as there are many matches to be played involving Asian teams: 2010 FIFA World Cup, 2011 Asian Cup and plenty of friendlies.

This is the July 2011 ranking (for AFC only) using matches played up to and including June 8th, 2010 and matches scheduled up to July 2010 (only those on fifa.com).

The "0.5" part is computed this way: points gained / (number of matches played + scheduled).

 1 1 Australia 373

  3. i do hope, this time bangladesh will not be forced by afc to play pre qualifying match of world cup 2014. because we have improved a lot. now we are 29 th position in afc. we are the south asian games (saf 2010) football champoin. fifa shopuld consider us for qualifying match directly. other wise we shall try to join to oceania jone with newzealand. where only newzealand is seeded team with 103 ranking, fiji and haiti are above bangladesh. fiji 132, haiti .133. so bangladesh can easily join 6to that join, only 11 teams qualify there for world cup final. if australia can join afc, we have the wright to join oceania jone. fifa should allow us to join there. i hope by 2018 we shall be able to play play off with other like newzealand for world cup final. dr.ashad, from dhaka. drashad689@hotmail.com
