Mexico - Spain not an "A" match

The friendly match Mexico - Spain played on August 11th, 2010 ended as a 1 - 1 draw. Both teams used more than 6 substitutes (Mexico 7, Spain 8) as you can see in the match report.

According the FIFA circular no. 1150, in national A team matches up to a maximum of six substitutes may be used.

The match won't be included in the FIFA ranking calculation.

  1. Not counting this match benefits Spain more than Mexico.

If the draw was included in the rankings, Spain would have had 63 points less, Mexico would lose 8 points.

  2. Is there any info or list of all matches that aren't A matches due to substitutes but still litsed on fifa website? Because the site itself doesn't provide this info

  3. Aren't more than 6 subs allowed if the referee is notified in advance? I seem to recall there was such a rule..

  4. The match can be played over 2 x 40 minutes or 3 x 30 minutes if the referee is notified in advance. Still, that won't be an A match.

  5. Interesting that it is still listed on the FIFA page, along with other matches played on the same day where other nations broke this rule:

Lithuania v Belarus (Belarus used 7 substitutes)
Mali v Guinea (Mali used 7 substitutes)
Malta v Macedonia (Macedonia used 7 substitutes)

  6. Thanks Raoul!

It's strange indeed. They removed the March 3 games very quickly. I don't know why they're so late in removing it...

  7. On August 18th, Ethiopia and Kenya played against eachother. Match is mentioned in FIFA match-database, so it is assumed to be a international A-match? I can't find anything about the match on other websites.
