2014 FIFA World Cup seeding update (8 September 2010)

CONCACAF's new qualifying format could be an advantage for USA and Mexico. With more games for the middle tier teams, these will climb in the rankings and provide more points for Mexico and the USA - of course if the big fish do get the win.

  1. Edgar,

Do Mexico and the US rank so low due to Euro 2012 qualifiers boosting the European teams?

    Thx.

  3. Edgar,

What date do you use as deadline for the October 2013 rankings?

  4. October 18th as release date. It's the first Friday after the official match dates. I will update this date if needed.

  5. I don't get it, what are the rules? What games are taken into consideration?

  6. Games played and scheduled between October 2009 and October 2010 - the first time frame of the October 2013 ranking.

  7. Edgar, when I take your deadline, I have different values. Spain played 16 matches between October 19, 2009 and October 18, 2010 and scored 16422,685 points. So, in my calculation that's 205 points. Same problem for the other countries in the top 20. What am I doing wrong?

  8. Add two games scheduled in October and you'll get 182.

If you look at the comment above yours, you'll see why we have different values.

  10. Edgar, I see. Thanks for the notification. I didn't realize that you included the October-matches into your calculations.
