I know I said the top 25 is already set, but Egypt are involved in the Nile Basin tournament. Although the Pharaohs did win against Tanzania, they will fall one place to 10th instead of climbing to 8th. It would have been their best ever ranking. Next month, they will be out of the top 30 as the 2010 and 2008 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations lose value.
Croatia climb to 9th.

ReplyDeleteNo surprises anymore, except the fact that Egypt blew their chances of an all-time high placing by organising a friendly torunament with a lot of weak countries.
ReplyDeleteEdgar, I guess you are aware of the fact that we are coming up to the 200th ranking table, published by the FIFA? According to my calculations, the April 2011 ranking table is the 200th.
Just maybe, in 6 months time, my national team (Holland) will reach top spot for the first time. Both Spain and Holland will not play too many matches the forthcoming months, so there is a slim, but reasonable chance of that happening.
I wasn't aware. Well, it will be the ranking with ID 200, but the ranking with ID 1 (December 1992) is not available on FIFA.com. December 2010 has the ID 199.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure about April 2011? According to my data, the February ranking will be the 200th (with ID 201).
This friendly tournament should benefit Egypt. They've been struggling against weak teams. So why not get a load of weak teams in to play with?
ReplyDeleteSure they'll lose the 8th, but Egypt are in a position where they don't need to worry about their FIFA ranking. And as amusing as the sudden drop next month will be, I'm sure whatever they drop to, it'll be good enough to be top seeded for World Cup qualifying. And if they qualify for the ACON, I believe the defending champion gets top seeded. So they can bring on the weak teams.
Keep moaning about England being 6th, people, ha ha. It amuses me. :)
Edgar,
ReplyDeleteCounting from the first official ranking list on FIFA.com (August 1993), it is my belief that April 2011 is the 200th. I will mail you an overview one of these days.
I want ask about the probable ranking of Efypt in April if we supoose that Egypt would win its matches in the nile baison tornment, U.S.A, and South Africa in ACN qualifier, thanks alot
ReplyDeleteme too

Hard to say what ranking Egypt will have in April. A lot of matches have to be played until that moment comes. When I calculate the current points, that is the games form now onwards until April NOT included, Egypt will be somewhere around the 35th place.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Edgar can calculate the position with the games until April included (results based on ELO-ranking), but my guess is that the position of Egypt will not be very different from my calculations.
After the rankings of July 2011 (when the results of the 2010 World Cup lose half of their value), the Pharaos will be on the rise again.
@Tobcoach
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right - the April ranking will be the 200th.
Regarding Egypt
With wins against Kenya, Uganda, USA and South Africa, they will have around 785 points, good enough for 29th. I don't have time to generate results though, so you'll have to wait until March/April when I will generate the results for the April ranking.
