CONCACAF are thinking about a new format now - it's not approved yet - but an official announcement should be made in a couple of weeks according an e-mail from CONCACAF.
It's not known yet what ranking will be used for seeding.
Here's the intermediate July 2011 ranking - it means the 2007 Gold Cup results are dropped, while the 2009 Gold Cup loses value. Of course, teams involved in the 2011 Gold Cup can climb depending on their performance.
Top 6 get a bye to the second group stage. Bottom 10 play-off to reach the first group stage.

I'm halfway surprised that there's been no CONCACAF discussion of using WC2010 "performance" rankings like Asia uses. CONCACAF performance ratings would seed USA, MEX, HON, CRC, SLV, and T&T!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I hope we don't see performance ratings.
Much better IMHO would be July 2011 FIFA rankings, taking into account the Gold Cup. It would also be the most recent rankings for the 30 July draw.
Hi Edgar,
ReplyDeleteAny chance of a "most probable" July 2011 CONCACAF rating if you have time?
@ Dorian
ReplyDeleteWell CONCACAF have been pretty good with their new system proposals. I like them, even though I'm expecting FIFA to throw this system out. And anyway, why would they change now?
Plus, in T+T you'd have a team getting seeded that's not even been fit to compete in the last two Gold Cups!

ReplyDeleteIf I have the time... :)
