Hi, Edgar!
ReplyDeleteThat might be the best you get this week :)
Are these the last rankings to be published before the EUROs? Last time June was skipped, right?
ReplyDeleteFIFA only skips the june-ranking when a world cup is played. Next ranking is published June 6th.
DeleteI noticed that the matches of the 2012 OFC nations Cup, scheduled in the beginning of June in the Solomon Islands and also valid for the WC 2014 oceanian qualifiers (the 4 semifinalists will advance to the final round of the WC qualifiers), have the "world cup qualifier" status instead of "continental final". It would be interesting to know why Fifa does not consider the bigger match status factor for these matches, since is it a continental tournament and the winner will qualify for the Confederations Cup as the other continental tournaments..
DeleteJos235,
Deletea valid point you make here !
The semi-finals and final of the 2012 OFC Nations Cup (to be played 8 and 10 June) should at least have the 'continental final' status, because these matches are not part of the world cup qualifying proces.
So why should the group-matches in this tournament have a lower status ?
By the way, in the qualifying proces for WC2006 OFC had a similar qualifing route and in that case the second round group-matches had a 'WC qualifier' status and the final had a 'continental final' status.
ReplyDeleteSo I expect no changes whatsoever this time.
I expect no changes too, but in my opinion there is no valid reason for it, because these matches are part of the final tournament and also because the oceanic nations do not have many opportunities to play competitive matches in the four years range, while other continents (Caf and Concacaf) have two continental competitions (and realtive qualifiers) in the same interval, so they are penalized respect the nations of other continents
