FIFA Ranking: August 2012 final preview

FIFA will publish the ranking on 8 August.

Only one match left: Guam - Macau.

This is how the points can change for these two teams:

Guam (L: 28, D: 35, W: 50)
Macau (L: 13, D: 22, W: 39)

In the table below, the values displayed for these teams are the minimum values, thus even if they lose, their totals won't drop.

There will be 209 teams in the August ranking, as South Sudan will be ranked for the first time - 199th or 200th depending on the Guam - Macau result.

More bad news for Brazil. FIFA have removed 8 matches from the official list of "A" matches - Lithuania - Russia among them. The Russians will thus gain 35 points and overtake the Brazilians - who will drop to 13th, instead of the expected 12th place.

List of removed matches - all friendlies from 2012:

26/May Jordan - Sierra Leone 4:0 (2:0)
29/May Lithuania - Russia 0:0
01/Jun Estonia - Finland 1:2 (1:2)
01/Jun Latvia - Lithuania 5:0 (3:0)
03/Jun Estonia - Lithuania 1:0 (1:0)
03/Jun Finland - Latvia 1:1 (0:0) 5:6 PSO
04/Jun Hungary - Republic of Ireland 0:0
18/Jun Saudi Arabia - Morocco 0:2 (0:0)

I don't know why these matches were removed. Most likely causes: number of substitutes or change of referee without FIFA's approval.

I'm wondering how fifa removed match hold since 2months,as jordan vs sieraleone?l think for more transparency, fifa should decide if "A" match or not within 2days.also,they should clarify thereason of removing matches,if any.

    1. Tarek,

FIFA can only decide about the status of a match if they receive a sort of official match-report. Then they can apply their criteria for an A-match status: among others the number of substitutes and the referee (as Edgar pointed out above).

But I have to say: this removal of matches from the FIFA-list have become a little bit of a plague and appears much more frequently lately. So maybe they have sharpened their criteria and/or their vigilance on these aspects or (switch to 'paranoid' mode here) national teams have found out how they can manipulate the rankings in their favor (switch back to 'normal' mode).

You are right..fifa should control this in more effective way to avoid any results manuipulating for each country sake.
