FIFA Women's Ranking: Great Britain = England?

Have you noticed the women's fixtures and results for England on FIFA.com?

Quite interesting.

Here's the current top 30 (as of 3 August - before the Olympic tournament quarter finals) - without the Great Britain matches.

Korea DPR drop out of the top 10, with Italy taking their place.

Current rank - Team - Points - +/- Ranking - +/- Points

1 USA 2208 0 30
2 Germany 2168 0 0
3 Japan 2084 0 -36

6 France 2043 0 22
7 Canada 1974 0 -7
8 England 1971 1 5
9 Australia 1949 1 -7
10 Italy 1947 1 0
11 Korea DPR 1946 -3 -24
12 Denmark 1922 0 -1
13 Norway 1908 0 0
14 Netherlands 1894 0 7
15 Korea Republic 1843 0 0
16 Iceland 1841 1 6
17 Spain 1831 -1 -10
18 China PR 1819 0 -9
19 Finland 1818 0 15
20 Russia 1801 -1 -2
21 New Zealand 1785 2 13

26 Czech Republic 1714 -1 -17
27 Nigeria 1676 0 -10
28 Belgium 1660 2 16
29 Colombia 1650 -1 -1
30 Thailand 1645 -1 0

Great Britain have played three matches so far - all wins: 1 - 0 vs. New Zealand, 3 - 0 vs. Cameroon, 1 - 0 vs. Brazil.

If these games would be included for England (as home matches, even if Cardiff is in Wales as far as I know) these would be the changes:

New Zealand and Cameroon would have 1 point less.
Brazil would have 21 points less.
England would have 21 extra points.

  1. Hmmm, that would be nice. The other nations normally enjoy an advantage over England due to the olympics. Racking up the points.

I wonder if some people will think the mens team have something to do with England's coming third place if Team GB continue to perform?

    1. The mens team wouldn't get any more points, because of the tournament being (mainly) under-23.

It does seem weird that fifa have put the fixtures under England. This may only be because of the team being run by the FA, though.

    2. FIFA have confirmed these GB matches won't be included in the calculation.
