  1. Cambodia-Philippines (5/9) and Laos-Philippines (10/9) friendlies are removed from the results list and excluded from the points-calculation. Does anybody know why ?

Also the friendly between Guinea and Cameroon (1:2 played on 26 May 2012 (!) in France) is removed this September. Does anybody know why ?

In general: does anybody know the rules FIFA uses to determine if a match is eligible for the FIFA-ranking? A link to some official document would be much appreciated.

    1. Cambodia - Philippines Match: removed because Cambodia used more than 6 substitutes

Laos - Philippines: removed because the referees are not certified FIFA referees

    2. Hey Anon,

      thanks for the info.

      So rules are:
      - no more than 6 substitutes;
      - certified FIFA-referees (the whole team of referees including the fourth official must be FIFA-approved => Baltic Cup 2012).

      Any more rules ?

  2. Not calculated some prejudice to classification results

Levels change when the classification changes

Algeria or Ivory Coast if won Ghafrikie Cup and participated in the Confederations Cup will be on of the best 7 teams and thus will be in the first level and this does not satisfy FIFA

    1. It seems to be strange but believe it. If FIFA included the friendly between Cote d'Ivoire and Mali (CIV 2 MLI 1), both teams will be loosing points. Cote d'Ivoire will have 947 instead of 951, and Mali will have 717. Cote d'Ivoire will be ranked 17 instead of 16 if the game was included, and Mali will be ranked 33 instead of 27.

It looks reasonable for Mali, but for Cote d'Ivoire the team is performing so good (winning most games last year except defeated by penalties against Zambia in the ACN12') that a friendly win against an average team (MLI rankd 39 in May 2012) pushes the average points over last year down.

Better for CIV to play friendlies against top teams (top 10 possibly), or they need just to play official games to keep their position. Removing this game was beneficial to both teams!

Algeria can overtake Cote d'Ivoire in December just before the ACN 2013. Algeria will be in the top 20 with 907 points if they defeat Libya on October 14.

    1. BHR-PHI (12/10) and KUW-PHI (16/10).

win BHR, win KUW: 210 pts
win BHR, draw KUW: 199 pts
win BHR, loss KUW: 194 pts

draw BHR, win KUW: 200 pts
draw BHR, draw KUW: 189 pts
draw BHR, loss KUW: 183 pts

loss BHR, win KUW: 194 pts
loss BHR, draw KUW: 184 pts
loss BHR, loss KUW: 178 pts

So, no harm done if Philippines loses both matches. Then they will have the same amount as in October: 178 pts.

  4. I think that Algeria will win on Libya and qualify for the African Championship and then beat Bosnia in a friendly match and also wins in three friendly matches before the start of the African Championship and thus will be before the beginning of 2013 in the Top 15.
The champion will enter the list of top 10 teams

    1. The only reason I think that Algeria will win over Bosnia is because that game is played due to the independence of their country as they will give 100% of them, while we will play probably to try out new combinations and similar and that's the sole reason why we don't play very good the friendly games but I would love that we win against Algeria just to advance a bit on the list because we will need that for the World Cup on which we will hopefully qualify.

  7. Just to let you know that the Finnish media reported today that Baltic Cup 2012 results have now been accepted by FIFA and they should be included in the next (November) rankings. At least the two matches by Finland, that is.

    Estonia 1:2 Finland
    Finland 1:1 Latvia

  8. Hi Ed.

Can you post detailed games and points for Italy and Morocco for October 2012?

I also have a few questions:

    * How do you deal with awarded games (few games against SLV, PLE, ETH and SYR). Also ITA-SRB this year.
    * I know that Curacao (CUW) got independence and started playing games just a short time ago after being part of the Netherlands Antilles. Did you use the results for ANT to expand results for CUW? Same for MNE being independence from SRB.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hi Brahim,

match points for awarded games are generally calculated with the ranking of the month in which the decision was taken (which is a bit odd if you think about it).
The abandoned match ITA-SRB (12/10/2010) for instance should have been calculated with the september 2010 ranking but was based on the October 2010 ranking.
Same goes for the SYR-TJK WC-Qualifiers in 2011: match points were based on the August 2011 ranking but should have been based on June (1st leg) and July (2nd leg) in my opinion.

Indeed, all the matches that the Netherlands Antilles played in and before October 2010 count for Curacao now.

Montenegro is a different story. They started playing as an independent nation in June 2007. They did not 'inherit' any points from Serbia because Serbia itself didn't ceased to exist as was the case with the Antilles.
