FIFA Ranking: February 2013 final preview

FIFA will publish the ranking on 14 February 2013.

Three matches left: a friendly (Nepal - Pakistan) and the final and the 3rd place match of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Nigeria - Burkina Faso and Mali - Ghana).

This is how the points could change:

L = Loss, D = Draw, W = Win, PSO = Penalty shoot-out.

In the table below, the values displayed for those teams are the lowest possible.

Brazil will fall to 19th (worst ever ranking) if Ghana defeat Mali after 90 or 120 minutes (i.e. avoiding PSO).

32 - Belize
25 - South Africa

Burkina Faso could climb 53 spots in total.

Worst movers:

-34 - Equatorial Guinea
-26 - Gabon
-16 - Egypt and Angola

Best movers in the top 50:

18 - Nigeria
10 - Tunisia
9 - Venezuela

Burkina Faso could become the best climbers in the top 50 if they win the AFCON.

Côte d'Ivoire will improve their best ever ranking (12 - 14 in June 2011). Some small consolation... They had the potential to be 4th in the February ranking.

Panama will return to their best ever ranking (43rd in October 2012) or could even climb to 42nd.

Four teams will return to their worst ever ranking:

Cyprus (135 - 135 in September 2012)
Kyrgyzstan (200 - 200 in November 2012)
South Sudan (200 - 200 in November 2012)
Cook Islands (202 - 202 in April 2009)

Nine teams will drop to new lows:

Egypt (70 - 64 in March 2012)
Cameroon (79 - 71 in October 2012)
Fiji (171 - 170 in August 2007)
Sri Lanka (193 - 190 in December 2012)
Cayman Islands (195 - 192 in December 2007)
Eritrea (197 - 196 in December 2012)
Somalia (203 - 201 in January 2013)
Djibouti (204 - 203 in January 2013)
Anguilla (206 - 205 in July 2006)


Australia will climb to 2nd in AFC, with Korea Republic dropping to 3rd.

Zambia will drop out of top 5. Côte d'Ivoire will remain first, while Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria and Mali will be in the top 5 - but the exact order depends on the AFCON.

Honduras replace Jamaica as 5th in CONCACAF, Panama climb to 3rd, while Haiti drop to 4th.

England replace Italy as 3rd in Europe.
