FIFA will publish the ranking on 14 March 2013.
This is a quiet month - only 11 teams have matches scheduled - all part of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup qualification. None of them could climb higher than 128th. This means the top 127 of the March ranking is already set.
This is how the points and rankings could change for these 11 teams:

Palestine | 132 | 175 | 168 | 143 |
India | 97 | 218 | 175 | 138 |
Myanmar | 84 | 165 | 178 | 147 |
Bangladesh | 79 | 208 | 178 | 140 |

Afghanistan | 39 | 233 | 190 | 131 |

Don't you write about the possible outcomes of the matches between those 20 teams in AFC Challenge Cup Qualifier?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I didn't have the time.
DeleteThe international match in Bangkok between Thailand and Faroe Islands on 21 February appeared on FIFA's webesite for few weeks ago. For around one week ago it was taken off FIFA's website. This morning the match again appear on FIFA's website, so I guess it means the match is an offical international.
ReplyDeleteIt's removed again. Somebody has some difficulty making up his (or her) mind... :D
DeleteI can just agree :)
Deletegazi bosno!
ReplyDelete@EDGAR ARE U ON FB??
ReplyDeletealso when will india play next in the afc cup after the myanmar match?
No, I don't use Facebook as I explained some time ago.
DeleteI assume you're thinking of the Challenge Cup. India needs to be in the top 2 of the 2nd placed teams.
There was no update on March 8.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming you're curious as to where Afghanistan will be in the March rankings? Well, they will be the mover of the month and will rise to 141st on the rankings with 190 points.
DeleteThanks.
DeletePlease try to remember that this is a hobby for Edgar. I assume he was too busy to update the predictions this time. Perhaps he will do so this week, and otherwise there will surely be a new prognosis for the April rankings.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything is OK with Edgar. Losing this website would be a devastating loss. Tobcoach and Ed would then need to step in and do the dirty work. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Edgar miss an update, ever. It's a little worrying, I hope he's alright. Has anyone ever seen him miss one?
ReplyDeleteEdgar is on vacation
ReplyDeleteHow do you know?
DeleteEdgar's last tweet was about 'changing jobs' so I suppose he's just too busy at the moment.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have to admit I would be glad to see just a little message from him.
Patience, my friends !
Hi guys,
ReplyDeleteYes, there was no update because I was changing jobs and I was also on vacation.
Started working at the new company 2 days ago.
Thanks for worrying about me though, I'm touched :)
Hey, you're back ! Very good.
DeleteAnd congratulations with your new job !
I was worrying that maybe the Internet in Iasi was switched off :D
No need, looking at Akamai figures, Romania are 5th in the average peak connection speeds - ahead of Holland :D
DeleteHe's baaaaack!
DeleteYes, the alarm bells start ringing for me when creatures of habit break their habits.
I'm glad you're OK, Edgar! Yes, we were worried about you. The information you provide is invaluable and all your efforts here are truly appreciated by many. Yet at the end of the day, it's just sport and there are many things more important.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the new job and all future endeavors!
And he's very nice and helpful.
DeleteI JUST CHECKED THE PAGE 100 TIMES FOR NEW POST. ATLAST U R BACK
ReplyDeleteI have one question if it is possible? I have been looking into the calculations regarding Bosnia-Herzegovina for the FIFA and UEFA ranking. When it comes to UEFA ranking points I get the same as you have on this site. But when I look at the FIFA ranking I can't get it right.
ReplyDeleteBoth you and FIFA have Bosnia at 825 points. On the latest ranking (14 March 2013) Bosnias coefficient for 2013 is 420.05 accordning to FIFA. Before this update Bosnia only played one match against Slovenia in 2013. According to my calculations Bosnia shold have the coefficient 459 since Slovenia was ranked 47. when they played the game:
3*1*153*1=459.
Did I miss something? I am searching like crazy and I can't find my mistake, I would really appreciate it if you could answer. Thank you!
Ajo,
DeleteDo I understand you correctly that you compare the 459 match points for the Slovenia-match with the first time frame average of 420.05 ?
That can't be right as the first time frame average is indeed an average. It is the division of the sum of match points from all the matches played in the first time frame (roughly from march 2012 until march 2013) by the number of played matches in that time frame.
For a better understanding of how the FIFA ranking works, read: http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/procedureandschedule/menprocedure/index.html
Ed,
Deleteod course you are right! I mixed things up last night, when I looked at the coefficients I was under the impression that 2013 was for the calendar year 2013, not the past 12 months. And now I feel silly, since it is absolutely logical that the coefficient for 2013 iz based on games from the last 12 months and not only on the Slovenia game.
Everything is correct in my calculations now as well, when I go back to April 2009 and not only to January of 2010. I have seen the link you put up loads of times but my eyes just decided to avoid seeing the "past 12 months" sentence :)
Also, even though this is my first comment on here I have been coming to your blog for years and I would like to take this opportunity and thank you for this wonderful page that is just an oasis for us statistic lovers!
Cheers,
Ajo
Glad that's solved. The caption '2013' for the first time frame average could indeed be confusing !
DeleteBtw I'm not Edgar, just another reader of this blog whose name happens to begin with 'Ed' and who tries to be of help.
I support your compliments towards Edgar completely though !
Ah, another mystery solved! Thank you for your help, nonetheless, Ed!
DeleteCheers,
Ajo
@Ajo & Ed
