Hello Edgar,
ReplyDeleteEgypt's friendly against Swaziland will not be included as an international FIFA friendly since we substituted the whole team at half time. According to Ed, Egypt's ranking remains the same but our total will be 512 instead of 507 (http://www.football-rankings.info/2013/03/march-2013-fifa-ranking-vs-elo-ratings.html?showComment=1364199198458#c5418617398746264085)
Hi Andrew,
Delete512 would have been Egypt's total with a Zimbabwe-win and the Swaziland match removed. That match is however still included, so it's still 507 points.
But friendlies can only be included if no more than 6 substitutions were made during the match. See here (last criteria): http://www.football-rankings.info/2012/11/fifa-ranking-rules-for-friendly-matches.html
DeleteWhere did you get your info that Egypt-Swaziland is included?
As far as I know this list is leading in the calculation of the FIFA points:
Deletehttp://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/results/male.html
shame on you brazil. keep dropping.
DeleteEd, I don't think every match on that list is included in the rankings. It wouldn't make sense because this list includes upcoming matches prior to their taking place and the result is simply added to the entry as soon as it's known. But actually, it's only after a match that the two teams send the match report along with the referee's signature to FIFA for inclusion in the rankings. Sometimes they agree not to.
DeleteIf you look at the bottom of that page you posted, there's a note saying that the list is compiled from official sources as well as from media reports, so I would say it's definitely not the final thing on which the rankings are based.
Also, I trust my eyes that 11 Egyptian players entered the pitch on the 22nd of March at half time against Swaziland. And the 6 subs limit thing is an official FIFA document so...
Andrew,
DeleteAnd I trust you when you say you saw a whole new team the second half. And indeed, I have seen the document stating the requirements for a match to be an official A-international.
I just don't know the reason why this match is still in this list. All I know is that the results (and of course not the upcoming fixtures) as presented in this list, are used to calculate the FIFA points for each team.
I have only seen it once in the 4 years that I follow the ranking now (and I think it was the ranking of January or February this year, I've made a comment on it on this site) that the presented points in the FIFA ranking did not entirely correspond with the results in this list.
But in the end, 507 or 512 points, it's not the end of the world, is it ? Let's wait and see, if and when this friendly get excluded.
Andrew,
DeleteThy will is done :D
Brazil will be back in the higher ranks soon, with the Confederations Cup coming where they will be expected to reach at least into the semifinales and pick up loads of points for the ranking.
ReplyDeleteAnd another bombshell: watch Belgium for the next couple of months. They are expected to burst into the top-10 in July, and in August and September they will be in or near the top-10.
I wouldn't bat an eyelid if they didn't get out of their group.
DeleteIt's interesting they've played all these teams recently, a mixed bag, beat Japan, tied Italy, lost to Mexico. Would it be enough?
If anyone's interested, did this a while ago but forgot to post it here - March rankings with modified weighing (50%-50%-100%-100%) :
