- CAF will keep the current qualifying system
- FIFA will use the FIFA ranking to seed the teams
- CAF will choose the July 2015 ranking for seeding
The July 2015 FIFA ranking will include matches played between July 2011 and July 2015. This means we're currently in the 0.5 time frame and things will start to get interesting.
This the July 2015 ranking (for CAF only) using matches played up to and including December 5th, 2013 and matches scheduled up to July 2014 (only those on fifa.com).
The "0.5" part is computed this way: points gained / (number of matches played + scheduled).

When we can know the qualification system for 2018 world cup?
ReplyDeleteCAF or FIFA will determine the qulaification system??
Not entirely sure, but I think CAF will pick the format.
DeleteI was trying to think up a handy format. This is my best idea:
ReplyDeleteRound 1: (2 gamedays)
28 weakest teams from CAF play a two legged play-off to qualify for next round in AFCON and FIFA qualifying
The winner of each tie qualifies.
Round 2: (6-8 gamedays (6 FIFA/6-8 AFCON)
10 groups of 4 teams.
Top team of each group qualifies to AFCON 2017 and next round of FIFA qualifying.
5 best second placed team qualify to AFCON 2017
or
Second placed teams play a two-legged playoff to qualify for AFCON 2017
Round 3: (8 gamedays)
Two groups of 5 teams. Played after AFCON 2017.
Top two qualify for FIFA world Cup. Two legged playoffs between third placed teams.
Round 4:
Two-legged playoff between 3rd placed teams of Round 3.
Examples for possible Round 3 groups (according to current ELO):
Ivory Coast
Ghana
Cameroon
Senegal
Mali
Nigeria
Egypt
Algeria
South Africa
Guinea
