2018 World Cup simulations (18 November 2016)

The usual 10000 simulations, based on the current Elo ratings and including results up to 15 November 2016.

The play-offs are also simulated, with a slight twist: I used Elo ratings to seed the UEFA play-off draw.

Previous simulations (14 October 2016).

Taking into account the actual group distribution, these are the teams most likely to make it to Russia:

Congo DR and South Africa replace Tunisia and Senegal. The race is very close in their groups.

    1. i agree totally

the only improvement i would make is expanding the top 10 tables to top 20/25 or showing the month previous and change form month previous in the main table

  2. Should we start talking about the mess the 2026 World Cup is shaping to be?

    UEFA out of FIFA, please.

  4. I generally like your site very much, but from a mathematical point of view I am not sure about the value. If one single match lead to increase or decline of chances by up to 30%, the correctness of the first value of chances for qualifying is quite unstable.

One question: Did you ever run such a 10.000 calculation run twice at the same point of time? I wonder what will be the abbrevation from the 1st to the 2nd run. If it is greater than let us say 3%, then "luck" is to much a factor for me in your simulations. In that case, it is maybe suitable to increase to 100.000 or 1.000.000 simulations.
