Is there a way to find out if the upcoming May 31st derby between Italy and San Marino (it will be played in Empoli, Tuscany) is considered an official match by FIFA? Ventura is expected to field a team of young players with no experience in the senior team before taking on Uruguay (friendly) and Liechtenstein (WC qualifier). Will the game against San Marino count for FIFA rankings?
ReplyDeleteThis match is not listed on FIFA.com, so very likely is not considered an 'A' match.
DeleteThanks. The Italian Federation is apparently not selling tickets, so it will probably be just a scrimmage or an unofficial friendly.
DeleteBelieve it or not, the Italian Federation is now selling tickets for the game and the match will be televised live by ESPN Deportes.
DeleteWhat about Croatia who scheduled a friendly in Los Angeles vs Mexico on 27 May, on the same day that Croatian league plays its last round. The coach is struggling to find 15 players eligible for this match. Idiocy...
DeleteAnd the Mexicans are not really making much sense as well. They scheduled a friendly vs Ghana in the middle of Confederations Cup! In fact, should they get past the group stage, their semi-finals match will be on the same day as their friendly vs Ghana. This could be the first time in history that one team plays two official matches on the same day.
Chile has already did that on 30 May 2010.
Deletei think yes. because san marino is an member of FIFA. in 2016 Gibraltar isnt, so matches whith them aren't counted so teams from group D EURO2016 Qualifiers lost 'easy point`s'
ReplyDeleteIraq did very good performance recently but still they are not upgrading very much in ranking. while some nations climbing very high by winning 1 or 2 matches against teams they ranked high.
ReplyDeleteI must have missed something. What good performance?
DeleteThey beat Iran by 1-0 the number one in Asia. Then played a draw against Australia, high ranked team before they lost to Saudi Arabia again a high ranked team by 1-0. This all given just 5 steps up gradation in FIFA Ranking. While india beat Mayanmmar and comodia both are very low ranking team to climb 31 spot in fifa ranking.
ReplyDeleteI am Indian and I am very happy. But ranking not showing the real status of teams.
Certainly, the ranking is flawed and India have shown you can game the system.
DeleteHowever, Iraq haven't had a good year. They have lost 8 Elo points in the past 24 months. Of course, Elo ranks them 84th, while India is 170th.
