AFC MA Ranking update (5 May 2017)

Weighting for the FIFA ranking part of the formula dropped from 30% to 10%. The MA ranking at the end of the club season (November 2017) will be used to determine the slot allocations for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

I know club points are different from those published by AFC this morning, but that's because AFC didn't include the bonus points for advancing to the KO rounds.

FIFA ranking points computed for November 2017, considering scheduled matches as defeats and using 797 as maximum (the amount of points the top AFC team had in November 2016).

See previous update.

West

Jordan jump from 11th to 9th in the West region. Their champion will now host the I-League winners, instead of facing Uzbekistan's 3rd team away.

East

Malaysia overtook Hong Kong and are now 6th in the East region (direct ACL GS slot). With Eastern out of contention in ACL and Johor still involved in the ACC KO stage, Malaysia look to be in control.

Malaysia's direct ACL GS slot means their two ACC GS slots will be redistributed. Laos will gain 1 GS slot (going from 0+1 to 1+1), with Singapore and Myanmar both going from 1+1 to 2+0. Based on this season's participations, all ASEAN ACC slots except one will be direct slots, with the final slot being decided in a play-off between Laos 2 and Cambodia's champion. In East Asia, the ACC would turn into a Hong Kong vs. North Korea affair, as Hong Kong would get 2 direct ACC slots (assuming Taiwan, Macau and Guam don't participate), North Korea (1+1) and Mongolia (0+1). So most likely, there will be 2 clubs from Hong Kong and 2 from North Korea in the same group.

Philippines overtake Indonesia and will host the champions of Myanmar, instead of Singapore

  1. I don't think Hong Kong will get 2+0 slots in AFC Cup. In EAFF, SAFF and CAFF(only 1 group), the 3 leagues with highest MA points in respective zones can get maximum of 1+1 slots only.

    1. As I wrote: "assuming Taiwan, Macau and Guam don't participate". You have Hong Kong, North Korea and Taiwan in the top 3: 1+1. Macau, Guam and Mongolia with 0+1. But if only Hong Kong, North Korea and Mongolia are involved, HK will get 2+0, same as NK got this season.
