A FIFA spoksperson told ESPN: "Given the fact that the FIFA World Cup 2022 will take place in November-December and that each confederation plans a different timeline for their qualifiers to the tournament, it has been agreed that a preliminary draw will be held separately for each one of them."

ReplyDeleteBest solution for Uefa is qualifying draw for 2022 World Cup in November / December 2020 after knowing finalists of next Uefa Nations League. All dates before will handle some scheduling problems. I expect 10 groups for European qualifying of 2022 World Cup. It should be the same structure as for Euro 2020 with the difference to guarantee qualification to only the group winners. No idea of playoff format. If they follow the 10 groups format they have only 3 open slots after decision to stay with 32 teams for this edition. Does anybody have more information?

Looks like 10 Groups like Euro 2020. The winners take direct qualification. The runners up and two Teams from Nations league 2020 can fill 3 Playoff tournaments consisting of four Teams to determine the final 3 spots of 2022 World Cup qualification.
